Original interpretation — not a still from the production
Pantelleria, a swimming pool, and a houseguest who will not stop talking.
The Continental Verdict
Worth Watching
Guadagnino's remake of La Piscine is really an excuse to film heat: volcanic rock, sun-warmed tiles, the pool that everyone circles and nobody enjoys. Fiennes gives the performance of his career as a record producer with no volume control, and the film is at its best when it simply lets the island bake.
The plot arrives late and slightly spoils things. No matter — few pictures capture a Mediterranean summer with this much conviction.
